Lancaster holds more remodel-ready kitchens than any city we serve. The great tract-building years of the 1980s and 1990s filled the avenue grid with homes that all got the same kitchen: golden oak raised-panel doors, single-roller drawer guides and a soffit boxing in the top foot of the wall. Those kitchens are now thirty to forty years old, the layouts still work, and the owners face the classic fork in the road between refacing what is there and building new boxes to the ceiling.
We work both sides of that fork honestly. When the original boxes are square and the layout suits the family, refacing delivers a new kitchen face for roughly half the money, and our cost guide prices it plainly at $4,500 to $12,000 for a typical Lancaster kitchen. When the soffit is coming out, the island is going in or the layout is changing, full custom is the better spend, at $500 to $1,200 per linear foot installed.
The west side is a different market inside the same city. Move-up homes toward Quartz Hill carry bigger kitchens, taller ceilings and owners who want an island with furniture details, walnut or rift oak fronts and pantries fitted like closets. That is full-custom country, and the drive from our Palmdale base is fifteen minutes.
What the tract years left under the toe kick
Lancaster kitchens from the tract years hide a specific problem: the boxes were set before the flooring, so decades of new floors have climbed the toe kicks. When we build new cabinets we set them to the finished floor with proper toe space restored, which is a small detail that makes the room read custom before a single door style registers.

Should I reface my 1990s oak cabinets or replace them?
It depends on the boxes and the layout, and we tell you straight after looking. Square, solid boxes with a layout you like make refacing the smart money at $4,500 to $12,000. Sagging shelves, water-damaged sink bases or a layout fight mean new cabinets earn their cost. About half our Lancaster estimates end in the cheaper recommendation.
How long does a full custom kitchen take in Lancaster?
Plan on six to ten weeks of build time after the design is locked, then three to five days of installation. The kitchen stays usable until install week because the new cabinets arrive built, unlike a site-built remodel that camps in your house for a month.
Can you remove the soffit above my cabinets?
Usually yes, and it transforms these kitchens. Most tract-era soffits are empty framing, so taking them out lets new uppers run to the ceiling with crown. When wiring or ducting lives inside, we design around it honestly rather than promising and patching.
Do you handle the countertops too?
We coordinate them. The cabinet contract covers boxes, fronts and installation; we template and schedule the stone with fabricators we trust so the counters land right after the boxes set. One schedule, one responsible party, separate honest invoices.
